This three storey fortified residence is well hidden in a plantation area of the suburb of Bawshar, Muscat. Close to the city's last remaining sand dunes, Bait al Maqham is a unique structure at the bottom of the Hajar mountains. Also known as “the Big House”, it has witnessed two major restoration and historic preservation projects that were undertaken by The Ministry of Heritage and Culture of Oman. First one took place in 1991, and again in 2010 in order to stabilize building’s structure.
